People in the Dallas area woke up to a scene more suited for the Northeast than North Texas on Tuesday morning. Most of the area received snow and some parts of the area got icy, as well. FC Dallas Stadium was no different - covered in a picturesque light layer of snow.

NEW YORK – The 2013 MLS SuperDraft, presented by adidas, will be broadcast to a global audience through an innovative distribution approach featuring ESPN SportsCenter and a number of online streaming partners including ESPN3, ESPNFC, MLSsoccer.com, YouTube and FCDallas.com.

The SuperDraft will take place on Thursday, January 17 at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, Ind., in conjunction with the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Convention. Starting at 11 a.m. CT, the first overall selection will be broadcast live on ESPN SportsCenter.

“We are taking a more progressive and fan-centric approach to how we’re distributing and producing the 2013 MLS SuperDraft,” said MLS Chief Marketing Officer Howard Handler. “We have a young, diverse, digitally active fan base who will watch from home, from the office, from coffee shops, or just about anywhere. Soccer is a worldwide sport and this new initiative also allows us to continue catering to MLS fans across the globe.”

“We looked at the numbers from last year and draft day is the busiest day of the year for MLSsoccer.com. We thought this would be the right opportunity to step out, innovate, and do something more forward-looking.”

Fans of MLS will also be able to watch the entire draft live on ESPN3, ESPNFC, MLSsoccer.com and YouTube. Additional online media outlets may be added to the list of broadcast partners in the coming days.

The HD broadcast will feature ESPN soccer commentators Alexi Lalas and Taylor Twellman, who will provide the thorough analysis that MLS fans have come to expect. They will be joined by members of the MLSsoccer.com editorial team and other guests.

The 2013 MLS SuperDraft will include two rounds and 38 overall selections. The first nine selections are currently held by clubs that did not qualify for the 2012 MLS Cup Playoffs, in reverse order of regular season finish. The remaining 10 positions currently belong to clubs that were eliminated in the same round of the 2012 MLS Cup Playoffs, in reverse order of regular season finish. Each year The Dallas Morning News' Editorial Board selects a Texan of the Year. When the winner is revealed, the paper also prints a list of nominations from its readers of people they thought were worthy of the honor for that year.

A DMN reader nominated FC Dallas goalkeeper Chris Seitz for his in-season bone marrow donation. The DMN published the letter nominating Seitz in its most recent Sunday editions and is pictured above. It reads:

"I nominate Chris Seitz. Chris is a goalkeeper for the FC Dallas soccer club and donated bone marrow to save a stranger's life. He made the decision to do this in September, even though he would miss the rest of the soccer season and without the guarantee of a contract for next season. In this age of professional athletes with huge egos and salaries to match, it takes a very special person to do what Chris has done."

Late last month, the FC Dallas U-14 ECNL team traveled to San Diego, California to play some of the best competition in the nation and watch the Women’s College Cup Final Four. The FC Dallas ladies played the number one team in the country and two other top Southern California teams at the event.

"Through this outstanding level of competition, [the team] was able to gain some valuable experience that will be vital as they make a push to qualify for the national championships," said head coach Matt Grubb.

In order to do that, the FC Dallas U-14s must finish in the top two out of 10 teams in the ECNL Texas conference.

In addition to the intense competition and high-quality level of play, the team was also able to see the NCAA Division I College Cup semifinals and finals. They saw both semifinal matches between Stanford and North Carolina, and Penn State and Florida State, respectively on Friday, November 30.

"Both semifinal matches were decided in overtime on some spectacular goals," said Grubb. "They saw players like Christine Nairn, Maya Hayes, Crystal Dunn, Satara Murray, and our own [former FCDY players] Alina Garciamendez and Chioma Ubogagu as well as several others that have national team experience playing at a blistering pace and with the utmost creativity and flare."

In the final on Sunday, December 2, the girls watched UNC beat Penn State 4-1.

"This trip for the ladies will prove to be a great experience," said Grubb, "to help them raise their level of play and emulate some of the college greats in hopes of one day competing at the same level."
