Veteran Dallas Morning News writer Rick Gosselin featured rookie midfielder Ryan Hollingshead (right) in his column this week. Gosselin wrote about Hollingshead's decision to postpone starting his professional career in favor of spending a year helping his brother start a new church in Sacramento.
“When I said I was going to go help start that church and forgo that year of soccer,” Hollingshead said, “I did not expect to come back [to soccer]. Not because I didn’t want to or that the desire wasn’t there. More because I thought that was my chance — either you come and play now or it’s off the table.
“I wanted to play. But I wanted to plant this church first. That’s what God was calling us to do. Once they left the offer on the table, I took it.”

It's a new month, and with the turn of the calendar comes the next scarf in the FC Dallas Scarf of the Month line.
April's exclusive scarf is a nod to Texas history and the Texas Derby (presented by Novo Nordisk). With the match against the Houston Dynamo coming up this weekend, one side of the scarf features the "Come and Take It" slogan that was used during the Texas Revolution of 1835 and is used today to dare the Dynamo to try and reclaim El Capitan. On either side of the slogan is half a cannon, which comes together when the scarf is draped around the neck of an FC Dallas fan.
The reverse side of the black-and-white scarf features an FC Dallas wordmark with a star on either side.

FC Dallas' next opponent has had a solid start to the 2014 season after a disappointing 2013. Chivas USA opened their campaign with a 3-2 win over the Chicago Fire in week one and managed a 1-1 draw against Vancouver Whitecaps FC in week two despite losing midfielder Agustin Pelletieri to a red card in the 13th minute.
