FRISCO – FC Dallas goalkeeper Richard Sanchez is looking forward to learning and developing even more as a player during the next three years.
That was the big takeaway from the 18-year-old 'keeper who just inked a three-year contract with the club that will keep him in North Texas until 2015.
“It feels great,” Sanchez said after training on Thursday. “Now that I got an extension it just feels good.”
Sanchez said talks about extending his initial deal he signed in 2011 began one month ago. Sanchez’ agent worked with FCD Technical Director Fernando Clavijo to get the deal done.
Sanchez is the sixth Homegrown player in club history and played 360 minutes in 2012 with the FC Dallas Reserves.
The goalkeeper said club officials told him they were excited to re-sign him and they wanted to keep him and develop him.
Sanchez wanted to stay as well.
“I want to be here at FC Dallas for the next three years,” Sanchez said. “Who knows – maybe I can win a starting spot here. But I know in order to, I have to earn that.”

FC Dallas midfielder Brek Shea spent his Saturday morning painting with children with special needs in Dallas. It was part of Challenge Air, which has enriched the lives of children and youth with special needs through its unique aviation programs. While the children waited for their respective turns to fly in a plane, Shea, who in his spare time has his own art studio – Left Foot Studio, worked with the children on their own artwork.
