Representatives from numerous MLS teams along with past U.S. Soccer men's and women's national team players gathered in Newtown today - site of the mass shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary - for Soccer Night in Newtown. The event was organized by Houston Dynamo president Chris Canetti to bring some much needed joy and fun to the residents of Newtown.

FC Dallas players Bobby Warshaw and Zach Loyd are the FC Dallas players in attendance and are pictured on the bottom left in the first row.

Each year The Dallas Morning News' Editorial Board selects a Texan of the Year. When the winner is revealed, the paper also prints a list of nominations from its readers of people they thought were worthy of the honor for that year.

A DMN reader nominated FC Dallas goalkeeper Chris Seitz for his in-season bone marrow donation. The DMN published the letter nominating Seitz in its most recent Sunday editions and is pictured above. It reads:

"I nominate Chris Seitz. Chris is a goalkeeper for the FC Dallas soccer club and donated bone marrow to save a stranger's life. He made the decision to do this in September, even though he would miss the rest of the soccer season and without the guarantee of a contract for next season. In this age of professional athletes with huge egos and salaries to match, it takes a very special person to do what Chris has done."
