In a five-day camp designed to build the core of the Under-18 Men's National Team pool, U.S. Soccer, in association with Nike, has called together a 64-player national combine of players aged 15-17 and six FC Dallas players have been included, most of any team in the nation.

Fresh off winning the Frontier Division of the 2012-2013 US Soccer Development Academy, defenders Wilifred Williams and Jordan Cano have been called into the camp. Williams, a dynamic left back, has started the last two MLS Reserve League games for FC Dallas while Cano started all three USSDA Playoff games playing up with the U-18's.

Also called into the combine were midfielders Coy Craft, Alex Radilla and Martin Salas as well as Christian Ramirez. All four were major parts of the U-16 team with Craft, Salas and Ramirez as '97's who have three years left with the FC Dallas Academy.

In all, the six players are the most of any team in the nation, two more than the next-closest team, Real Salt Lake-AZ.

CHICAGO (Aug. 7, 2013) – U.S. Soccer has invited 64 of the country’s elite 15- to 17-year-old players to participate in a National Combine from Aug. 9-13 at Nike’s World Headquarters in Portland, Ore. The event is part of U.S. Soccer’s expanded Training Center program launched in partnership with Nike in 2013.

This five-day camp is designed to evaluate and build the core for the U.S. Under-18 Men’s National Team pool. Led by U.S. Soccer Director of Scouting Tony Lepore, men’s Youth National Team staff will run the sessions.

The player pool was selected by U.S. Soccer scouts through assessment at Training Centers and Local Combines, Development Academy events and other youth soccer programs over the past year. This National Combine is a premier opportunity for the nation’s top high school-aged boys to be evaluated by National Team staff and scouts from around the country.

Many players were selected for the National Combine through a series of seven Local Combines in the following locations: Los Angeles (June 7-9), Chicago (June 10-11), Dallas (June 14-16), Philadelphia (June 14-16), New York/New Jersey (July 5-7), Washington, D.C. (July 8-10), and most recently San Francisco (July 26-28). The Combines targeted key markets to evaluate players in youth national team-caliber training sessions held over three days.

Each year, U.S. Soccer holds more than 200 Training Center sessions, which are a one-day National Team player identification program that connects the top local players with Youth National Team scouts. The Training Centers are free and invitation-only, featuring the best local players and competing in a quality YNT environment to open the door toward U.S. Soccer’s youth national squads, college and the professional level.

2013 has been a big year for Richard Sanchez as he starred for Mexico in goal at both the CONCACAF U-20 Championships and the FIFA U-20 World Cup, and the homegrown signing achieved another significant goal on Saturday making his professional first team debut on loan at the NASL's Fort Lauderdale Strikers.

Sanchez started in goal for the Strikers on a momentus night as they were the visitors to the New York Cosmos' first game in nearly 30 years. The Cosmos scored a late 2-1 victory, but Sanchez played all 90 minutes in goal making six saves on the evening. CLICK HERE for highlights from the match.

Bradlee Baladez, who joined Sanchez at the Strikers late last week, did not travel or feature in Saturday's match, but figures to play a part in this weekend's home opener. Fort Lauderdale plays the first home game of the fall season on Saturday hosting Minnesota United FC.

While on summer break from US Soccer Development Academy play, Homegrown goalkeeper Jesse Gonzalez has stayed busy joining up with the Mexico Youth National team to play in the Milk Cup in Northern Ireland. Playing in a four-team division with the US, Denmark and Northern Ireland, Mexico needed a win on the last day of the tournament over Northern Ireland to take home the Milk Cup and that's exactly what they did.

Goals from Kevin Gutierrez & Hirving Lozano gave Mexico a 2-1 win over the hosts to win their second Milk Cup in a row. It's tough to find any lineup information, though it does seem as if Gonzalez did not feature in the final match against Northern Ireland. Click here to see highlights from the match including Gutierrez's stunning free kick.

Another FC Dallas Academy player has been named to a national team, but this one is a first. Eric Davies, an outside back for the FC Dallas Under-15 pre-academy squad that advanced all the way to the US Youth Soccer national championship game has been called up to Canadian Under-17 National Team camp.

The 24-player roster will meet up in Sunrise, Florida from August 2-12 as Canada continues their preparation for the 2013 FIFA Under-17 World Cup that takes place in UAE in October and November.

Davies, who will become an integral part of the FCD Under-16 USSDA squad next season, has a Canadian father and will be appearing in the Canada youth side for the first time.

“This camp is a great opportunity for the players who are already in the team to show that they deserve to keep their places – and it is also a great chance for the new players to stake their claim to being part of this team heading towards the FIFA U-17 World Cup,” Head Coach Sean Fleming told the Canada Soccer website.

“We are definitely looking to create competition for spots on this team. That is important to us.

The 2013 MLS All-Star Game didn't quite go according to plan for Peter Vermes' side as the MLS All-Stars fell to the Italian side 3-1, but the highlight for FC Dallas fans was surely seeing Raul Fernandez start between the pipes. The Peruvian had a fairly quiet first half in goal making one save while allowing a fourth-minute goal that he could do nothing about.

Raul's start in goal was the first time an FC Dallas goalkeeper has started the MLS All-Star game since Mark Dodd in 1997. Raul spoke to MLSsoccer.com after last night's match.

31 July 2:27 pm

MLS announced today that George John has been named to the 2013 MLS All-Star inactive roster. Per the CBA, MLS names 32 All-Stars annually. The inactive roster is determined by the player vote.

"It feels good to get recognized by my peers in the league and it’s obviously a huge honor," John said on Wednesday morning. "I’m really happy about it."

FC Dallas is 7-2-5 this year in George John's 14 starts with 10 goals allowed in the 1170 minutes John has played for a GAA average of just .77.

Having missed this season's first match in Seattle due to injury, John returns to his hometown for the first time this year in Saturday's game at CenturyLink Field against Seattle Sounders FC.
