It's no secret that the Houston Dynamo dominated the early years of the Texas Derby with a team that won MLS Cup in both 2006 and 2007, but Saturday's emphatic 4-1 FC Dallas win was the exclamation point on tides within the state that have been shifting in recent years. Here are a few interesting stats behind FCD's win on Saturday night:
- Saturday's 4-1 FC Dallas victory was the largest for FCD in the regular season Texas Derby history(Houston defeated FCD by three goals in 2007) while the four goals scored is the most FCD has put past the Dynamo in a match.
- Saturday was the first time FCD has beaten Houston in back-to-back games in MLS play.
- The 4-1 win was FCD's first at BBVA Compass Stadium and marked the first time a Western Conference team has won at the Houston stadium.
- FC Dallas is 5-2-2 against their Texas rivals in MLS/USOC since 2009.
- Je-Vaughn Watson became the fourth player in series history to score twice in one Texas Derby game along with Kenny Cooper, Dwayne De Rosario and Cam Weaver.
- Mauro Diaz became the first FC Dallas player to score two assists in one Texas Derby match. Only Brad Davis has achieved the same feat for Houston.
Recently on one weekday morning, Bubble Soccer USA and FOX4 stopped by Toyota Stadium with the invitation for anyone in the office who was free to come down and play some bubble soccer(tough life, I know). I couldn't pass up the opportunity and we played about an hour of the new craze.
I will echo the comments in the video that it is one of the toughest workouts out there. While getting hit surprisingly doesn't hurt at all, you will wake up the next morning very sore as you work pretty much every muscle in your body trying to play soccer while holding up a relatively heavy balloon while constantly watching your periphery to make sure you don't get destroyed.
I highly recommend bubble soccer to anyone who has a chance to play. Here's Richard Ray's report:
Here's all the highlights from FCD's huge 4-1 Texas Derby win over Houston:
It's time to start getting serious about Saturday's game in Houston. We get things started by breaking down the Toyota Keys to the Match for Saturday's Texas Derby pres. by Novo Nordisk:
We're just two days away from the 2014 installment of the Texas Derby pres. by Novo Nordisk and for today's #ThrowbackThursday, let's take a look back at some of our old #CrushTheOrange videos(You can watch this year's two #CrushTheOrange videos on our YouTube page):

FC Dallas wants El Capitan back
The voting is in and Mauro Diaz has run away with the first Etihad Airlines MLS Player of the Month award.
Having earned over 60% of the vote, "El Magico" is the first FC Dallas player to win POTM since Kevin Hartman in July 2011 and he becomes the sixth player in franchise history to win the award.
Diaz has been truly incredible in the month of March playing 346 of a possible 360 minutes while scoring two spectacular goals and adding an assist(that doesn't count his other assist to Je-Vaughn Watson in the Chivas USA game). Since coming into the league late last year, Diaz has played 14 games with five goals and three assists to his name, averaging a goal or assist every 96 minutes. Those are some truly stunning numbers and even more amazing when you consider he's just 23 years old.
The Argentine is quickly becoming one of the biggest stars in DFW sports and if you don't have season tickets you really need to check out our Mauro Diaz "10 for 10" pack.
Unless you've been living under a rock, you know that Conan O' Brien has been filming his shows all week from the Majestic Theatre in downtown Dallas in conjunction with the Final Four at AT&T Stadium in Arlington this weekend. The shows have been hilarious, as usual, and on Tuesday, Conan performed his Wikipedia Dallas song which has some amazing facts you may not have known about Houston in there as well.
Given the game coming up this weekend, we thought it would be applicable to post here. Stay tuned for the whole thing as the last line is a doozy.
Yesterday, FCDTV released the first "Hooper Jams" album ahead of Saturday's Texas Derby pres. by Novo Nordisk, and we want you to help fill out HOOPER's first EP with a fifth track.
So far we have:

4. Let the cannon go
Here's where you come in! Tweet your favorite and most creative anti-Houston or pro-Dallas song titles with #HooperJams. We'll post our favorites on Friday and pick one of them to win two tickets to next Saturday's game against Seattle Sounders FC.

While Mauro Diaz curiously was not named to the MLSsoccer.com Team of the Week for his third consecutive home game despite scoring a late game-winning goal, FCD did have one representative on this week's team as 18-year-old homegrown Kellyn Acosta made the team for his marauding effort on Saturday night.
Acosta completed 45 passes in Saturday's game as well as two key passes and his brilliant assist to Blas for the first goal on Satudray night. Congratulations Kellyn!
Here's what they had to say:
D: Kellyn Acosta (FC Dallas) – Picked up an assist and was relentness and brave in general down FCD's right side.
We got dozens of GREAT submissions for our Toyota #LetsGoPlaces social media contest and we'd like to wish congratulations to Skyler Thiot AKA @TweetsOfTexas who has won our contest for this Tweet before Saturday's game:
